X-Brace for 1997-2000 Dodge Dakota 4x2 Club Cab/Quad Cab with automatic or manual transmission that already has the factory (center bearing) crossmember.
The X-Brace is probably the largest single handling improvement, other than tires, that can be made to your vehicle. The x-brace works by triangulating the frame to reduce flex and twisting, thereby increasing the strength of the chassis. Even though a truck has a full frame, the cab and bed are separate pieces (unlike a unibody car) and don't work together to stiffen the chassis. Since the x-brace creates a stronger chassis, there is a reduction or elimination of chassis and body creaking, groans, rattles and squeaks. The x-brace enables the suspension to function more as it was designed for improved stability and performance in a straight line, handling on a road course, and improved braking. 1) the truck holds the road better; it is surer footed; 2) it goes through the turns on a flatter plane than before; 3) the frame's not twisting as much while going over bumps, evident by the bed not moving around so much in relation to the cab; 4) the truck isn't squirrelly while chattering over multiple potholes like it was before; it stays straight and the rear end doesn't kick out sideways; 5) it accelerates better and straighter off the line; the power goes to the road instead of being absorbed twisting the frame; 6) braking is improved since the chassis isn’t flexing, and 7) the system compliments other suspension improvements such as the Hotchkis TVS, although the handling improvements are very noticeable in a vehicle without the TVS.
Not for use with 4x4. May be adaptable to 2-piece drive shaft (call for details). Comes in black powder coating. Complete with necessary hardware and fasteners.
Note: If you are considering a front driveshaft loop for installation with the x-brace, it is best to install it during the initial x-brace installation process. That will aid in obtaining precise positioning and alignment prior to drilling any holes. X-brace loop part number XFDL2.
Kit Attributes:
This kit utilizes round tubing.
The round tubing ends are capped with mounting platforms to prevent tubing crush and debris build-up.
The round tubing is mandrel bent without kinks for strength. It works well in torsion and has smooth finish for aesthetics.
A top and bottom plate are used for increased strength at the center of the “x”.
The powder coating is durable and ascetically pleasing finish.
Large grade-8 fasteners with nylon insert lock-nuts for increased clamping force and tensile strength.
